ceramics bisqued ready to glaze.. with only 2 hours and the glazes need to be made as you go... very different systems... and only a few samples for what they look like... and broken translations... miscommunication at the ceramic studio continues... so no idea what things will look like

so.. first one... is.. the red glaze is a dark red apparently.. brownish probably.. the purple will turn a pale yellow/mustard meets brown? the white at the bottom is shino, which is a traditional thick white glaze with solid thick layering effects... the light blue is a 'blue' i'm assuming indigo-ish but no idea... may also be cobalt based... and the grey small is a touch of black...

super dark clay... darkgrey... with shino at the bottom, heavy layered, black on the sides with smooth thin white in the midle, with a curve of red/brown at the top...

brushed black at the bottom, with brushed blue around, and a green that turns to red if there isnt enough oxygen around, which will probably be the case in the kiln? not sure... ugh i can't read my notes on this one, there are red and yellow dots around as well and all over glazed white in between the colours... i think...

then this one, with pinkish redish on the left, with blue above it, then some red and black and some green that might turn to red.. and in between is mixed between clear and white

then there is these cutie pies... with yellow, green that turns to red and brown/red, with clear in between (larger one on the left). middle one is shino and a touch of black - simple, and the little ball blob is blue black and green that might be red on the dark clay...

they said there wouldn't be enough room in the kiln so none of the works i did in the first class will be fired again, which is kind of sad... but whatever... lets see what these ones will be like... tuesday evening... hope they don't crack...

went to yuko's house on friday night.. so beautiful... this table waiting for us....

next to this beautiful loom...

and by these indigo plants she was drying... indigo is aiiro i learned..

then the gems started coming out... i had no idea she was a weaver... silk weaver...

pulled out some silkworm cocoons

which she spins

these ones she said she died recently with fresh indigo plants.. which make a light blue

then she pulled out some samples... kinda mind blowing especially the ikat...

then she pulled out her paper collection all made from various dyes... natural materials... i was embarrassed of taking more photos...

workshop with the kids, this is what we made

sooo went to ceramics today and the lady there decided to do me a favour and glaze all my work and fire it without asking me....

i had done some slip glazing works, so she thought i guess that it was done and put clear glaze over it and fired it...

and for the mini ones she put monochrome random glazes that she has in the studio as test tiles i guess, and wrote what each one was in japanese on underneath..

super depressed and sad, as all i really wanted to do was glazing.. so after a rollercoaster of emotions and trying to explain myself and that it is very important for me to glaze the works myself, she understood and let me make a bunch more ceramics that she said she'll have ready for saturday... which is totally amazing i guess... and i asked if we could re-fire these works and she said yesss it is possible so i'll be doing some glazing on these clear glazed ones and we're gonna re fire them... so not totally failure and maybe even more crazy interesting glazes on the long run?
